We are recruiting for an OccupationalTherapistwithin the Children and Young People Disability Service (CYPDS) in Windsor and Maidenhead. This multi-professional service supports children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).


Main duties of the job

* Work in close partnership with families to undertake assessments in relation to occupational therapy needs in thehome setting.
* To provide high quality assessments within the statutory responsibilities of Children and Families Act 2014, ChildrenAct 1989 and 2004 and the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and 1986.
* Have led responsibility for all aspects of Occupational Therapy (OT) provision within CYPDS which will includemanaging statutory OT assessments in the home environment.
* Manage a varied complexity caseload at differing stages of intervention.
* Triage all new referrals for OT assessment prioritising according to need and manage a caseload that covers adviceand guidance, provision of equipment or home adaptations.
* Lead on provision and purchasing of OT equipment and resources to meet assessed needs. Manage resources withina set budget allocation following funding approval with follow up reviews for use.
* Be responsible for ensuring that all processes relating to OT service provision within the service are working wellwithout unnecessary bureaucracy and delays for families. Review all such processes regularly to ensure integratedpractice.

This post is within the Children and Young People Disability Service (CYPDS) in Windsor and Maidenhead, a multi-professional service supporting children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25. The service integrates special educational needs, social care, occupational therapy, family work, and support functions such as the Local Offer and Short Breaks. Achieving for Children continually reviews its structure and practices to deliver effective, efficient, and high-quality services for children, young people, and their families.

In this role, you will work closely with families to assess and address the occupational therapy needs of children and young people within home settings. Referrals will cover a wide range of needs, including hospital discharge planning, home adaptations requiring Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) funding, provision of equipment such as seating and bath aids, housing-related issues, safety concerns, and manual handling assessments. You may also contribute to Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) reports and provide general occupational therapy assessments to address challenges requiring intervention.

Your assessments will focus on identifying equipment and adaptation needs to create accessible environments that promote independence for children and young people. This includes sourcing appropriate items from the local equipment store or specialist providers and supporting families through the process of applying for DFG funding when building adaptations are necessary. Throughout, you will ensure the childs voiceand, where appropriate, the wider familys perspectiveshapes the assessments and interventions. You will also manage a full time Occupational Therapy Assistant.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to a degree level with a relevant professional qualification in social work.
* Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field i.e. social work, leadership and management.
* Qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the Health Care Professional Council (HCPC)


Experience

* Experience of working with children and young people with SEN/Disabilities and their families.
* Experience of working with the DFG Team
* Experience of addressing specific equality or diversity issues within your practice with
* colleagues/service users and taking action to solve them.
* Experience of assessing the clinical needs of children 0-18yrs
* A good knowledge of safeguarding legislation related to disabled children, young people and
* their families.
* Experience of building and maintaining successful relationships with a range of influencers,
* including, housing, health professionals and schools.
