Arvato UK partners with some of the world’s biggest brands to deliver innovative, scalable supply chain solutions. We are now seeking an experienced Principal Designer to lead the design and development of warehousing, automation, and logistics infrastructure projects across the UK.
In this pivotal role, you will act on behalf of Arvato SCM UK Ltd in fulfilling the duties of Principal Designer under CDM 2015. Ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, shaping safe, future-ready facilities from concept through pre-construction.
You will be part of the project execution team, working closely with our logistics engineering experts, contractors, and clients, you’ll drive innovation while safeguarding compliance and operational excellence.
Your Task
Act as Principal Designer in line with CDM 2015, coordinating health and safety within the design phase.
Lead design and safety compliance for major warehousing and automation projects
Lead design risk reviews to address buildability, maintainability, operability, and end-of-life considerations.
Coordinate design risk management, PCI, and Health & Safety documentation
Review and coordinate design information (drawings, feasibility studies, layouts) to identify and manage design risks
Partner with contractors, regulators, and clients to deliver robust solutions
Mentor junior designers and champion best practice in design safety
Share design risk information with the Principal Contractor.
Plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate health and safety during the pre-construction phase.
Identify, eliminate, or control foreseeable risks.
Your Profile
Proven experience as a Principal Designer in warehousing, logistics, or large-scale construction
Proven experience applying CDM 2015 in practice, with working knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022.
Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 and the Building Safety Act 2022
Expertise in automation, warehouse design, or infrastructure development
Skilled in AutoCAD, MS Project, and stakeholder engagement. Able to review and interpret design drawings and project schedules
Degree (or equivalent experience) in construction, engineering, architecture and CDM Principal Designer training (Chartered status desirable)
Professional health and safety qualification
Experience in warehousing, logistics, or large-scale industrial projects.
