About The Team And The Role
Retail insight sits at the heart of the Ocado Retail grocery team—from advising the buying team on promotions to run and products to range, to understanding how our customers buy their weekly shopping, to building models for loyalty schemes and personalised marketing campaigns. Data and insight are critical to everything we do. We run regular training on key tools: visualisation, presentation, SQL, statistics and more. The Retail Media and Data team is responsible for Ocado’s onsite and offsite supplier advertising business, generating revenues from media space and commercialising our retail data via the beet platform and bespoke projects. As a senior analyst you will primarily support the retail media team to extract, manipulate and analyse data to enable major commercial decisions. You may also support bespoke project work for suppliers. You will identify opportunities and support strategy and operations of this business area. Ocado Retail aims to expand the supplier advertising proposition by opening new channels and leveraging latest ad technologies. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to understand digital media advertising and use data to make decisions within an entrepreneurial, high-impact team.
What You’ll Do
* Interrogate internal databases to provide recommendations to the retail media team and Ocado Retail’s senior leadership, covering both quick tactical questions and longer‑term projects shaping the team’s strategy.
* Visualise data and present insights concisely, with presentations tailored to the audience.
* Develop and maintain reports and tools to enable self‑service data access for stakeholders.
* Monitor business KPIs continuously and provide suggestions on risks and opportunities.
* Develop area expertise to drive understanding of next steps, and help shape weekly actions and long‑term priorities for impact.
* Act as a subject matter expert with other Insight teams when projects cross into other areas.
Who You Are
Essential:
* Experience working with databases or large volumes of data
* Experience in visualising and presenting analytics-driven recommendations to wide-ranging audiences
* Proven experience of data mining using SQL
* Ability to drive projects forward and deliver to plan
* The ability to communicate and influence at all levels
* Excellent Excel skills
* Numerate or Technical Degree (2:1 and above)
* Mathematics A Level (or equivalent) Grade A or above
Preferred:
* Experience in a retail, e-commerce, media advertising or FMCG consumer-facing business
* Experience with data visualisation software such as Tableau
* Familiarity with Google’s wider data ecosystem (e.g. Google Cloud Storage, AutoML)
* Knowledge of VBA
* Experience of R or Python
