Consultant Paediatrician with Interest in Epilepsy

If you have a strong passion for paediatrics and are eager to enhance your expertise, this position is an excellent opportunity to join our dynamic team of general paediatricians at Peterborough City Hospital, with the possibility of collaborating with colleagues at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
As a Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in Epilepsy, you will deliver high‑quality inpatient and outpatient paediatric epilepsy services. You will attend the paediatric outpatient service with two epilepsy clinics and one general paediatric clinic per week.
We encourage and support the development of your special interest while respecting your wellbeing. We will provide an office within the department shared with other consultant colleagues, as well as secretarial support.
Main duties of the job
The sessional commitments are 10 sessions per week. Any changes in the job plan will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead for the benefit of clinical service delivery.
You will be one of 12 general paediatric consultants on rota covering both general paediatrics and neonatology out of hours. In addition, you will attend multi‑disciplinary diabetes clinics as well as general paediatric clinics.
As a senior member of staff, you will teach and supervise trainee paediatricians and VTS trainees, as well as teaching medical students. You will be responsible for your own professional development, as well as for the junior staff you are managing.
Participation in the clinical governance programme is imperative. You will ensure that guidelines are constantly revised and updated.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with entry on the Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months).
* MRCP or MRCPCH.
* Epilepsy experience / PET 3 or willingness to develop special interest.
* Other relevant qualification e.g. MD or MSc.
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CSST/CCT in paediatrics.
* Expertise and experience of child protection at specialist registrar level.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Experience in a Level 2 or 3 Neonatal Unit at middle grade or consultant level.
Management and Administration Experience
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* IT literacy.
* Knowledge and experience of clinical audit.
* Lead roles such as governance or guidelines lead.
Teaching Experience
* Experience of clinical teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
* Aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching.
* Experience of organising teaching programmes.
Multi‑disciplinary and Multi‑agency Working
* Experience and aptitude for multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
