Job Description
About the Organisation
This opportunity is with a highly specialised engineering consultancy operating at the leading edge of structural dynamics, impact, blast and extreme load simulation. Their work supports critical infrastructure, defence, and high-reliability engineering environments where accuracy truly matters.
You’ll join a small, elite technical team delivering high-fidelity modelling solutions used directly in real-world decision-making and product development.
The Role
This is a hands-on numerical simulation role focused on building and running advanced finite element and CFD models for highly dynamic loading scenarios. You will work closely with experienced engineers and software developers to validate models, improve workflows, and support live project delivery.
This role will suit a Structural, Mechanical or Simulation Engineer who enjoys applied modelling, problem-solving and technically rigorous work.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and run FEA and CFD models for dynamic events including impact, blast and shock.
* Create clean simulation models from general arrangements, structural details and reinforcement schedules.
* Work with Ansys, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, Radioss, Aquas or equivalent solvers and associated pre/post-processing tools.
* Produce high-quality meshes suitable for transient and explicit analyses.
* Interpret results and generate clear plots, time histories and technical summaries.
* Support troubleshooting and model recreation for internal teams and clients.
* Collaborate with internal engineers to test new simulation workflows and software features.
About You
* Degree in Structural, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Physics or similar (MEng or MSc advantageous).
* Practical experience using FEA tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, LS-DYNA or equivalent.
* Comfortable working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Strong analytical mindset with clear written and verbal communication skills.
* Based in or able to commute to Edinburgh, Fife, West Lothian or the wider Central Belt.
* UK national or permanent resident (projects subject to security requirements).
Desirable (Not Essential)
* Postgraduate study in structural dynamics, materials, impact or numerical simulation.
* Exposure to blast, impact or high-strain-rate modelling.
* Knowledge of protective design standards.
* Basic scripting, CAD or automation to support model build and clean-up.
What’s on Offer
* Technically complex work with real-world engineering impact.
* Direct access to senior specialists and decision-makers.
* Genuine influence within a small, high-performing technical team.
* Hybrid working with a coastal Central Belt location.
* Ongoing development in advanced simulation methods and workflow innovation
