Patient Care Co-ordinator - Maternity Cover
Abbeywell Surgery is situated in the market town of Romsey. We are looking for a Patient Care Adviser/Co-ordinator to join our friendly and supportive team to cover maternity leave. We work across two surgeries in the area. We are seeking someone who enjoys working as part of a dedicated team and is committed to the care and wellbeing of others. We have two positions available with specific hours and days.
Main duties of the job
The key role within our administration team includes greeting patients, dealing with patient queries, booking appointments for all clinical staff, answering telephones, scanning, coding, referrals, and supporting our clinical team.

Job responsibilities
We have two positions available starting from August 2025 for a 12-month period:
* First position - Full time 37 hours, 0800-1830 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
* Second position - Part time 28.5 hours, 0800-1830 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and visitors.
Deal with general enquiries, explain procedures, and make appointments.
Use your judgement and communication skills to see urgent cases logically and non-disruptively. Explain practice arrangements and NHS requirements to new and temporary patients, ensuring paperwork is completed.
Handle telephone calls, messages, and direct calls appropriately.
Record home visit requests, refer to the Duty Doctor when necessary.
Process repeat prescription requests and ensure accurate filing and handover.
Inform patients of charges for private services, accept payments, and issue receipts/invoices.
Enter patient data into the system as required.
Maintain knowledge of practice procedures, handle emails, photocopy, and open/distribute post.
Scan and code documents accurately, cover all reception positions, and complete administrative tasks thoroughly.
Be familiar with opening and closing procedures for the premises, ensuring security and cleanliness.
Undertake additional duties as requested by Partners or the Practice Manager.
Maintain and develop computer, coding, and data input skills, providing support to ensure smooth practice operations.

Experience
* Experience in customer service (preferred)
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent (required)
* Experience in an NHS environment is desirable but not essential
