Job overview

We are inviting applications from enthusiastic and experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologists/Family Therapists/Clinical Nurse Specialists for a Band 8a post in our ARFID Team, as part of our eating disorders service for children and young people. Are you someone who enjoys working with young people, is a team player, and is willing to be flexible according to client need? Do you have experience working with children and young people with eating difficulties or neurodiversity? Do you love to learn and want to make a real contribution to developing excellent standards of care? If so, we are keen to meet you and welcome applications from those who may be newly qualified.
We are a friendly, welcoming, innovative, national and specialist eating disorders team (ARFID) working with young people (2 - 18 years) and their families. We offer inclusive and supportive team environments and are keen to support your professional development and wellbeing. Our multi-disciplinary team includes Clinical Psychology, Nursing, Dietetic, Psychiatry, Art Therapy and Paediatric posts, supported by a friendly Admin Team.


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide a specialist service including assessment, treatment, monitoring of outcomes and the provision of clinical supervision, consultation and training. The post holder will also contribute to service evaluation, research and policy development. There are many opportunities available within the service in relation to continued professional development.

Key responsibilities:

• To provide specialist psychotherapeutic/ clinical intervention services to the MCCAED ARFID team including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
• To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
• To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a specialist in eating disorders in children and young people.
• To work as an autonomous professional within BPS, HCPC and other professional guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


• To provide highly specialist assessments, formulations and interventions for clients in MCCAED ARFID Service including relevant specialist child and adolescent eating disorder assessment and treatment at levels expected of a psychologist/family therapist/clinical nurse specialist who has achieved Doctoral level training with additional post-qualification specialist development.
• To provide culturally appropriate clinical interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required.
• To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans.
• To act as care coordinator taking responsibility for initiating planning and reviewing care plans, CPA co-ordination and meetings.
• To contribute to the effective working of the team or service and to a psychologically informed framework for the service.
• To contribute to the team or service’s delivery of accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
• To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
• To advise other members of the service on specialist clinical care of clients.
• To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with clients in order to develop and review care plans.
• To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.


Person specification


Qualifications

* Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training)/Family Therapy/Mental Health Nursing that has been accepted by the relevant body for professional registration. (A/I)
* Additional training in a specialised area of clinical practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma. * Registered with the relevant registering body and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the registering body. (A/I)


Experince

* Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in eating disorders (A/I)
* Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. (A/I)
* Experience of carrying out research, audit or service evaluation projects. (A/I)
* Experience of working with children and adolescents with ARFID and their families (A/I)
* Experience of working with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families (A/I)


Understanding and Knowledge

* Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised clinical assessments and interventions for ARFID (A/I)
* Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment for ARFID in children and adolescents. (A/I)
* Understanding and knowledge of child protection procedures and safeguarding (A/I)
* Understanding and knowledge of CAMHS care pathways within the NHS (A/I)


Skills

* To deliver clinical interventions across cultural and other differences. (A/)
* To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information. (A/I)
* Skills in providing consultation to other teams / professionals /trainees (A/I)
* Skills in delivering CBT with young people (A/I)
* Skills in delivering behavioural interventions with young people (A/I)


Abilities

* Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles. (A/I)
* Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic meetings (A/I)
* Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self-harming or aggressive behaviour. (A/I)
* Ability to work with young people with neurodevelopmental diverse groups, such as people with ASC (A/I)
