Overview
A Cvilian Nex Gen. Aerospace business have an opportunity for an experiencedPower Electronics Engineerto join on a hybrid 12-month initial contract basis (QDOS assessed as Outside IR35 and high rate)to support the design, development, and qualification of high-reliabilityAC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems.
The role is for Power Electronics development to design, develop, and qualify AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems for satellite communications applicationl. This role requires strong expertise in power conversion, EMI/EMC compliance, and MIL-STD standards (this is NOT a defence opportunity).
Responsibilities
* Design AC-DC front-end converters (85-265 VAC to regulated DC rails).
* Develop isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters to support RF, digital, and control subsystems.
* Optimise designs for efficiency, thermal performance, reliability, and compact form factor.
* Ensure designs comply with MIL-STD-461G and relevant EMC/EMI standards.
* Implement filtering, shielding, grounding, and PCB layout techniques to control emissions and susceptibility.
* Produce schematics, design reports, test documentation, and compliance evidence for certification and customer reviews
* design reviews, FMEA/FTA, and reliability analysis.
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
* Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
* 10+ years\' experience in hardware design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
* Proven experience in AC-DC and DC-DC power supply design (up to kW range desirable).
* Strong understanding of EMC/EMI principles and MIL-STD-461G compliance.
* Hands-on experience with PCB design for power and EMC.
* Skilled in simulation tools (PSPICE, LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.)
* Proficient in lab validation and EMC test equipment (spectrum analysers, LISNs, conducted/radiated test setups).
Desired Skills
* Experience with power factor correction (PFC) topologies.
* Familiarity with ruggedised electronics for defense/field deployments.
* Knowledge of thermal management and environmental protection.
* Experience with compliance testing and working with certification bodies.
The client are happy with a hybrid working arrangement, approximately three days at the innovation centre based by Henley and two from home although this can be flexible depending on the development requirements at the time.
Application Process
If you are a seasoned Power Electronics Engineer looking for your next OUTSIDE IR35 contract, please apply with an up-to-date CV highlighting relevant experience.
Immediate availability or short notice is preferred. The interview process is an initial TEAMS followed by an onsite visit to the innovation centre
