About the Role
Taylor Woodrow is seeking an experienced Design Manager to work on major highways projects across the Northern Region. You will take ownership of contractor-led permanent works design, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and cost‑effective solutions.
This is a key role within a collaborative and forward‑thinking team delivering essential infrastructure that supports local communities and the UK's transport network.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage permanent works design across highways projects.
Oversee design subcontractors to ensure compliant, high‑quality, and cost‑efficient outputs.
Develop, implement, and maintain project‑specific Design Management Plans.
Drive design compliance with ISO 9001, Client requirements, and relevant industry standards.
Facilitate multidisciplinary design coordination and approve design deliverables.
Ensure robust technical assurance, including reviews, checks, and completeness of information.
Embed Design for Health & Safety principles throughout all design stages.
Support compliance with CDM regulations, Engineering Safety Management, and CSM where applicable.
Challenge designs to eliminate or minimise construction risk.
Administer design subcontracts and contractual obligations relating to contractor's design.
Monitor design progress against cost, programme, and performance targets.
Manage design change and maintain clear, auditable records.
Support implementation of project BIM strategies and BIM Execution Plans.
Champion digital engineering and its value in design and construction.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience as a Design Manager within highways, civils, or major infrastructure.
Strong understanding of design assurance, British Standards, and Client frameworks.
Skilled at managing design teams and fostering a collaborative working environment.
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge of BIM processes and design digitalisation.
A proactive approach to Value Engineering and Design for Safety.
