Overview
The main focus of this role is to represent the Care Leavers Service for West Sussex County Council, delivering statutory services to care leavers aged 17‑25 to support their transition to adulthood. We aim to improve services for children, young people and families across West Sussex.
Responsibilities
* Act as a professional representative for Care Leavers, delivering services in line with statutory duties and maintaining integrity, professionalism and respect.
* Ensure the needs of individuals are paramount, acting with integrity and professionalism on behalf of the organisation.
* Support care leavers to develop the skills needed to live independently and to achieve their goals, including healthy living, stable homes and educational opportunities.
* Engage and empower care leavers, working effectively to help them transition into adulthood.
Qualifications
* Ability to analyse and interpret people‑related information and data, prioritising, negotiating and implementing actions and interventions where appropriate.
* Experience working with child, young person and family populations.
* Experience of safeguarding situations and responding appropriately.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, influencing and persuading in relevant situations.
* Problem‑solving skills and ability to make decisions.
* Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in a crisis.
* Experience working in partnership to support young people.
* Independent travel within and outside the county; ability to travel internationally if required.
Working Pattern and Salary
Full Time – 37 hours per week; chance of hybrid working depending on operational requirements. Permanent contract. Salary: NJC Grade 9 – £36,363 – £39,152 per annum. The role is based at Arun Civic Centre, Littlehampton, with potential relocation to Worthing in the future and occasional overnight stays elsewhere. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, 5‑year referencing and a health check.
