Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm
We are seeking an experienced and driven Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to join a well-established manufacturing site in Wigan. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about health, safety, and environmental management, and who wants to make a real impact by ensuring compliance and driving best practice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage HSE compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and industry standards.

Oversee management systems (ISO 45001 & 14001) and ensure continuous improvement.
*
Conduct and support accident/incident investigations and root cause analyses.
*
Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring findings are addressed.
*
Manage site risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and safety protocols.
*
Organise and deliver HSE training programmes for site personnel.
*
Act as Fire Officer and lead emergency drills, liaising with relevant authorities.
*
Drive environmental performance, including permit management and reporting.
*
Support process safety assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, etc.) on a COMAH-regulated site.
*
Lead the site safety committee and engage employees at all levels in building a strong safety culture.
About You:
*
NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate (essential).
*
Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 standards.
*
Previous experience in an HSE leadership role, ideally within the chemical or high-hazard industry.
*
Experience of COMAH regulations is highly desirable.
*
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
*
Strong audit and risk management experience.
*
Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (desirable).
*
Additional qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely or Lead Auditor (45001/14001) would be advantageous.
