Early Years Officer
Canaan Lane Primary School
Salary: £33,287 - £39,129
Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks
We are looking for an Early Years Officer to join our team at Canaan Lane Primary School.
Our mission is to inspire and nurture lifelong learners who are equipped to embrace the opportunities and challenges of life beyond the classroom. We are forward-thinking in our approach to education, driven by a belief that every child deserves authentic and enriching learning experiences that build both skills and confidence.
Our Early Learning and Childcare setting is located on the ground floor of Canaan Lane Primary School, with capacity for 80 places across full year and sessional placements. Our Early Learning and Childcare staff team includes two Senior Early Years Officers, three Early Years Officers and a variety of Early Years Practitioners and Early Years Assistants. Staff are included and involved in decisions about how we develop our approaches and the work we do to support the needs of all our learners. It is important that everyone feels part of our school family.
Our Early Learning and Childcare learners enjoy large, bright open‑plan playrooms and an attractive outdoor space shared with our P1 learners. They have access to a local woodland area where Nature Kindergarten activities take place throughout the week.
We welcome applications from passionate and hard‑working individuals who have excellent experience of working within the early years. They must be able to demonstrate their ability to provide leadership for one of our Key Worker groups and have the skills to deliver a high‑quality service with enthusiasm and creativity.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre‑employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds bring to us as an organisation.
Hiring approach
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to ensure we bring the best people into our roles not only for their skills and experience but also for their approach to work. We are changing how we interview and assess candidates from a competency‑based approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new method will help us assess how you think and how you would apply Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility in your work.
