Workplace Classification:
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. It requires onsite presence up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team:
GM’s Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next-generation groundbreaking Motorsports IT software solutions. Using innovative cloud-based infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions enable interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and our Race teams, accelerating our drivers to the finish line first! Our team of analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers collaborates with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure podium wins for GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar teams.
The Role:
The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery. This experienced position requires an expert technical foundation, significant hands-on project contributions, leadership in solution architecture, and broad exposure to scalable cloud systems development. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will shape and apply your vision in building Motorsports software, supporting our systems that give us a competitive edge on race day and inform production vehicle development. This role is highly visible and focused on aerodynamics systems design.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead a team of developers in implementing and maintaining GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD model construction, visualization, and analysis. Develop pluggable systems orchestrated by the platform.
2. Design solution architectures and lead the team in decision-making.
3. Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks that connect systems loosely.
4. Identify value gaps within the aerodynamics team and develop solutions.
5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones through leadership.
6. Manage Scrum story delivery for individual contributions.
7. Develop playbooks, architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, code, testing, and deployment for your stories.
8. Collaborate and support team members.
9. Be reliable and self-managed in delivering your part of the solution.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical field.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
* Experience in designing and building full-stack applications.
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years in microservices development.
* At least 2 years in web services design and development.
* Experience with containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
* Understanding of best practices, DevOps, CI/CD.
* Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
