Overview
WRc is expanding its Digital Consultancy capability to meet growing demand for data‑driven solutions across the water and environmental sectors. We’re looking for a Head of Digital Services / Principal Consultant who can combine technical rigour, commercial awareness, and creative problem‑solving to help shape the future of digital services for our clients.
This is a full‑time, hybrid role (37 hours per week) Monday - Friday.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical
o Take ownership of your value proposition and lead the delivery of complex consultancy projects across clean water and wastewater domains.
o Provide subject‑matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
o GIS, spatial analysis and geospatial data management
o FME workflows and automation
o Hydraulic modelling and network/drainage impact assessments
o Leakage strategy, network performance and optimisation
o Data science, analytics and digital transformation
o Management consulting and business transformation
o Environmental and Social Governance (ESG)
o Develop tailored methodologies aligned with client needs, regulatory expectations and industry best practice.
o Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate findings and co‑create solutions.
o Support proposal development, including scope definition, resource planning and pricing.
* Client
o Develop scopes of work and produce high‑quality, costed proposals in line with internal quality standards.
o Build and maintain productive client relationships to support revenue growth and repeat business.
o Provide excellent customer care and be responsive to evolving client needs.
o Identify opportunities and lead the development of successful proposals.
* People
o Foster a team culture of proactivity, innovation, transparency, collaboration and flexibility.
o Mentor and support junior colleagues in their technical and professional development.
o Work safely and ensure adherence to all health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
o Report positive interventions, near misses and hazards in line with SHEQ expectations.
Qualifications
* A degree in a STEM discipline or significant relevant experience within the UK water industry (e.g., network operations, asset management, leakage, GIS, digital transformation, environmental consultancy).
* Strong understanding of UK water sector regulatory frameworks (e.g., Ofwat, Environment Agency, DWI).
* Experience working with geospatial data, GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and FME for data processing and automation.
* Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, draw valid conclusions and make clear recommendations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high‑quality consultancy reports and engage confidently with clients.
* Experience in clean water network modelling, asset management or digital transformation programmes (desirable).
* Familiarity with Python, SQL or other data analysis tools (desirable).
* Experience delivering consultancy services or working in a client‑facing environment (desirable).
