The role
As a Programme Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Your work will make a real difference to national security and global defence, while giving you the opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic environment. You’ll be at the heart of innovation, driving change and building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
Day-to-day, you’ll take the lead on mission-critical, high-profile programmes within our Gunnery Centre of Excellence. This is a role that’s out of the ordinary — you’ll manage complex engineering projects with transformational elements, delivering systems and services that support naval gunnery and future technologies such as Uncrewed Surface Vessels.
1. Leading a multi-disciplinary team to deliver naval gunnery projects and new business opportunities
2. Driving growth strategies, including ownership of Uncrewed Surface Vessel prospects
3. Providing leadership and guidance to ensure delivery commitments and financial goals are met
4. Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, maintaining confidence in Babcock’s delivery
5. Developing and implementing business cases, delivery plans, and transformation initiatives
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Programme Manager
6. Strong knowledge of Project and Programme Management principles
7. Proven track record delivering complex engineering programmes from design through to manufacture
8. Experience in managing budgets, schedules, and stakeholder relationships
9. Defence sector experience is desirable but not essential
10. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile environment
Qualifications for the Programme Manager
11. Degree or equivalent qualification/experience
12. Recognised project management qualification such as APM PMQ, ChPP or equivalent
