SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
The School of Engineering has a requirement for an Electrical Technician to join the technical team supporting the teaching and research of the school. The post is diverse, varied and interesting requiring a flexible approach to support duties based on core electronic skills.
To provide electronic based technical support requiring working in the School's workshops and laboratories and in other areas of the University as required. The role involves working in and supporting all areas of the School to meet School priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Liaising with academics, students and other members of staff on the design, construction and materials for the manufacture of equipment and apparatus.
• Manufacture of equipment and components for the purpose of teaching, research and commercial work using precision tools and instrumentation.
• Provide electronic and electrical support and expertise to major high voltage research projects.
• Maintenance, modification and repair of equipment used in teaching and research.
• Provide instruction and advice to academics, researchers and students as required in the application and practice of equipment and experimental apparatus.
• Maintenance of workshop and School equipment with similar duties in laboratories and other University sections.
• Promote a safe and tidy work environment with emphasis on good workshop/laboratory practice and risk control.
• Other appropriate duties as determined by the TRO.
CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Suitably skilled and experienced in the use of the full range of electronic test and measurement equipment in the manufacture and modification of components, equipment and apparatus. Candidates must be prepared to work with the full range of engineering and scientific equipment. Experience in the use of laboratory testing equipment, CAD/CAM for the production of Printed Circuit Boards is desirable although training will be provided.
Candidates should be self-motivated, able to demonstrate initiative and patience with good interpersonal and time management skills for working with a wide range of colleagues from technical, research, academic backgrounds and students. The ability to rise to the challenge of providing technical solutions is essential as is a preparedness to acquire and apply new skills.
Candidates must have relevant experience including a recognised apprenticeship or other formal training. Required qualification is an electronics HNC or equivalent. Candidates with commensurate experience, who can demonstrate the requisite skills and experience, will also be considered.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 5, £33,002 - £36,636 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.
