Position Overview

We’re looking for dedicated Social Workers to join our Mental Health Social Care teams. We are open to applications from both experienced and newly-qualified social workers who are passionate about supporting adults with mental health needs. The Mental Health Service delivers services to Surrey residents who meet social care criteria in line with the Care Act. We communicate with partner agencies to ensure a high standard of service for Surrey residents who have mental health needs and their carers, and help keep a record of effective community support. As a Mental Health Social Worker you will carry out assessments, reviews, safeguarding enquiries and provide direct social work intervention for adults with mental health needs, all guided by our values of collaboration, respect and ambition for our residents.
Responsibilities
* Work with adults with mental health needs, including carrying out Care Act assessments, reviewing and updating proportionate support plans.
* Conduct clinical risk assessments and risk management, including safeguarding enquiries.
* Provide direct social work intervention and case management for adults with mental health needs.
* Coordinate closely with partner agencies to ensure a high standard of support and maintain person-focused outcomes.
* Keep practice up to date through ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
* Professional qualification in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England.
* Experience in Social Work, knowledge of Care Act legislation, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act and preparation of support plans.
* Experience and understanding of mental health assessment and risk management.
* Good understanding of safeguarding and ability to carry out safeguarding enquiries.
* Current enhanced DBS check and a valid driving licence with vehicle access.

Additional Information
Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, moving from a two-tier system to two new unitary councils in April 2027. If you are employed on 1 April 2027, your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of the new organisations. The role offers hybrid working, with two days a week in the office, and includes induction, supervision and reflective practice sessions.
