Key responsibilities
Our client is looking for an experienced Head of R&D to play a pivotal role in steering their technical R&D Tax function.
* Manage a small team of R&D Tax Analysts, delegating tasks and responsibilities to ensure smooth operations. Track team performance, ensuring quality of work is at expected level. Provide guidance and coaching as needed to ensure maximum efficiency.
* Review and approve calculations and documentation, implementing quality control measures to maintain the highest level of accuracy and compliance.
* Take ownership of the submissions of amended corporation tax returns and additional information forms.
* Maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of the ever-changing R&D Tax scheme, providing technical expertise and guidance to wider team members and clients where necessary.
* Review and develop systems and procedures to improve operations and function of the department.
* Ensure that processes comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards.
* Identify and mitigate potential risks related to R&D Tax claims.
* Create, review and report department data as required.
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience managing an R&D Tax team, with experience in all stages of the technical process (technical calls, technical report writing and financial summaries)
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Strong leadership skills
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
* Capacity to understand financial analysis and calculations
* Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable
* ATT / CTA qualification, or similar
* Working knowledge of other Tax Services, e.g. Embedded Capital Allowances, Land Remediation Relief
* Experience working with multi-national firms
