Job Overview
In this role you will take the lead in installing copper and fibre cabling, containment, termination, testing, labelling and documentation for structured cabling systems and related technologies (such as Wi‑Fi Access Points). You will primarily work in pairs and as a part of a wider team based in and around London and the South East.
Role Overview
The Lead Data Cable Engineer will manage and deliver structured cabling installations, including copper and fibre systems. This role combines hands‑on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise cabling engineers on‑site, ensuring safe and efficient workflows.
* Install, terminate, test, maintain and decommission structured cabling (Copper & Fibre) – Cat6 and fibre optic cabling.
* Deliver toolbox talks, risk assessments, and enforce health & safety compliance.
* Install containment systems (cable trays, trunking, conduit).
* Conduct fault finding and resolve cabling issues proactively.
* Act as the primary client contact, reporting progress and addressing concerns.
* Ensure installations meet certification standards (e.g., Fluke testing).
* Support project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
* Carry out cabinet and containment work.
* Support switch installations.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience in structured cabling installation (copper and fibre).
* Strong background in supervising engineering teams and good organisational skills.
* Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical documentation.
* Proficiency with cable certification equipment.
* CSCS/ECS skills card or equivalent certification.
* Full driving licence and own vehicle.
