Join a Leading Contractor Specialising in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team based in Ipswich. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of commercial management across a portfolio of specialist HDD projects, providing both upstream and downstream commercial leadership.
You will report directly to the Commercial Manager and oversee a small team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, playing a key role in the commercial success of complex infrastructure and utility projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of commercial administration and contract management across live HDD projects
Support pre-construction and tendering activities during ECI/feasibility stages
Ensure timely and compliant submission of notices, variations, and all other contractual documentation
Identify and manage project risks and opportunities to protect project margins
Prepare and submit accurate applications for payment, including substantiation of Compensation Events (CEs) and variations
Lead negotiation and resolution of CEs, claims, and final accounts
Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation, documentation, and account management through to final agreement
Produce accurate cash flow forecasts and cost-to-complete reports
Monitor and report on project financial performance, margin, WIP, revenue, and cost projections
Liaise closely with project teams to ensure accurate understanding of delivery, procurement, design, and programme status
Ensure proper record-keeping is maintained for contract compliance
Provide commercial leadership to junior team members and develop their capabilities
Support wider commercial team and perform any other duties required by the Commercial Manager
Skills & Experience Required
Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract (FIDIC, NEC, etc.)
Proven experience in managing commercial aspects of infrastructure or HDD projects
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Excellent commercial awareness and strong negotiation skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management and organisational skills, able to meet tight deadlines
Leadership experience managing junior commercial staff
