Provides direct care for at-risk youth in a safe and caring family-style living environment. This position guides and teaches youth on appropriate skills and behaviors, and provides moral, spiritual, and educational development for future success.
Afternoon/Evening Hours, rotating weekends

$22-24/hour to start
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
1. Provides safe and effective services
2. Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.
3. Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
4. Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.
5. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
6. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Provides direct care to children
1. Serves as an active member of the family home program team; participates in measuring progress and providing input on goals and discharge planning.
2. Collaborates with courts, social agencies, parents, school personnel, and other members of the program about youth's behaviors and progress, as well as strategies for teaching.
3. Adheres to reporting guidelines.
4. Assesses and monitors youth skills and progress to determine skill development needs and priorities.
5. Uses Boys Town teaching model by describing, practicing, and providing rationales for the use of appropriate skills/behaviors, as well as describing and addressing negative behaviors.
6. Serves as a role model for youth by exhibiting skills taught in the program.
Provides for moral, spiritual, and educational development
1. Monitors, supports, and encourages academic performance and educational success (e.g., good study habits, quality of work, higher education, etc.).
2. Attends school conferences, communicates with educational staff, and builds effective working relationships to meet youth's academic needs.
3. Teaches and models Boys Town values, including moral and ethical behaviors and obeys the law.
4. Supports, attends, and participates in religious services, conferences, community service projects, and other activities with youth, discussing their relevance to daily life.
Provides and fosters a safe and caring environment
1. Maintains a family-style model by providing emotional support, praise, positive feedback, individualized attention, and empathy to build self-confidence and respect.
2. Uses rational problem-solving techniques to teach critical thinking and behavioral skills.
3. Monitors off-campus activities and observes youth interactions during home, recreational, and leisure times for safety and skill development.
4. Adheres to all child safety policies and protocols, including reporting guidelines and behavioral management.
5. Provides crisis intervention, which may include physical restraint.
6. Plans and provides opportunities for individual and family activities that are entertaining and educational.
7. Models and teaches parenting, family, and relationship skills to youth, guardians, and caretakers.
8. Nurtures and cares for youth who are ill or need medical assistance.
9. Provides transportation for youth as needed.
10. Monitors environment for safety and security.
11. Ensures safety in accordance with policies, including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.
Manages budget
1. Maintains appropriate household spending and budgeting.
2. Prepares and submits reimbursement documentation.
3. Assists with home maintenance needs.
4. Supports Family Teachers in home operations.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders
1. Maintains contact with consumers for information, scheduling, and coordination.
2. Attends and appears in court as needed.
3. Prepares youth progress reports.
4. Writes incident and behavior summaries.
5. Tracks and communicates youth medical needs and appointments.
Florida Only: Provides Behavioral Health Overlay Services (BHOS) and completes billing documentation as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability and desire to work and live with youth.
* Willingness to work flexible hours.
* Sound judgment and maturity in working with children.
* Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
* Excellent communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum 21 years of age.
* Valid driver’s license with a good record.
* Pass annual Motor Vehicle Registration check.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Some college credits preferred.
Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet organizational needs.
