Consultant Haematologist- Myeloid Disorders & Stem Cell Transplantation

The closing date is 22 March 2026

Whole-Time Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Myeloid Malignancy and Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.


Main duties of the job

With respect to this post, the appointee will work within a team dedicated to state-of-the-art and comprehensive management of malignant myeloid diseases (AML, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms). Central to the role and skill mix will be appropriate management of patients with various types of myeloid malignancy with Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation within the JACIE accredited programme.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice, name on the specialist register for Haematology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Name on the specialist register for Haematology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
* Basic Medical Degree
* Post graduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post


Management and Administration

* Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management


Personal attributes

* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values .
* Good oral and written communication skills
* The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013).
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate/Basic understanding of research methods and statistics
* Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
* Understanding of the issues surrounding clinical research
* Ideas for future research whilst in post


Teaching and training

* Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors


Continuous Professional Development

* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio


Clinical experience

* Specialist training in the clinical management of malignant haematological disorders.
* Specialist training and experience in haematopoietic cell transplantation, including unrelated donor procedures.
* Ability to manage haemato-oncological patients at all levels of care (level 1-4).
