Cancer Recovery Programme Director
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is hiring a Cancer Recovery Programme Director. Closing date 29 May 2026.
As a subject‑matter expert you will oversee the improvement, delivery and transformation of cancer performance and pathways for the organisation, ensuring it meets local needs and national standards. You will collaborate with system partners, especially community services and primary care, and provide regular updates to the ICB and regional teams.
The Director will lead the development of an integrated improvement plan, underpinned by individual cancer pathways, including pathway transformation, left‑shift initiatives, and quality outcomes.
You will champion excellence, compassion and inclusion, creating a safe space for colleagues to identify improvement opportunities and share ideas. Your leadership will empower teams, support mutual learning and foster a culture of transparency.
Main Duties
* Build strong relationships with staff across MSE Hospitals and external stakeholders.
* Engage senior clinicians and other stakeholders in implementation, providing briefings on programme milestones.
* Communicate contentious information and propose major changes in service delivery as part of the cancer recovery programme.
Job Responsibilities
* Lead the development of the MSEFT Cancer Recovery Programme and ensure it is appropriately structured and resourced for sustainable delivery.
* Drive stakeholder engagement and communicate complex information to support major service delivery changes.
* Develop the pipeline of initiatives for improvement, efficiency and transformation within the cancer programme.
* Analyse performance data from multi‑stranded projects, report on targets, and implement strategies to manage delivery.
Qualifications
* Professional background with a degree in health care or a related subject.
* Master’s degree or equivalent senior‑level experience in a specialist area.
* Professional financial qualification or equivalent commercial experience.
Knowledge and Experience
* Extensive experience leading significant, complex projects within the NHS.
* Proven track record of change management in a large, customer‑facing organisation.
* Successful development and maintenance of high‑quality cancer portfolio arrangements using improvement methodology.
* Expertise in managing senior relationships across multiple partner organisations, demonstrating emotional intelligence and credibility.
* Experience developing and implementing improvement strategies.

* Evidence of leading, developing and managing a team.
* Experience coaching and building capability across an organisation for complex, strategic change.

£112,782 to £129,783 a year (Pro Rata for part‑time).
