Job overview

Provide a comprehensive, professional, and confidential administrative service to the Clinical Matron and fellow Theatre Sisters and staff which optimises their time and enables them to fulfil the clinical element of their roles.

The post holder will develop and implement administrative systems which will support the efficient running of Winchester Theatres.

Main duties of the job

The Surgical Services Division is seeking an efficient and highly motivated Ward Managers Assistant, to be based in the Nightingale Theatres reception. The post-holder will provide a range of support duties to the Clinical Matron as well as the wider Theatre Team (incorporating Theatres, Recovery and Anaesthetics)

You will need to be highly organised as well as being flexible and possessing the ability to work as an integral team member.

You must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and be able to remain calm in a busy theatre environment.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. Knowledge of patient administration and other related systems, acquired through training experience

Desirable criteria

7. Customer Care Training or similar

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Previous experience in an administrative role or experience of working in an administrative capacity
9. Able to demonstrate current knowledge and identify own learning needs
10. Experience of organising own work

Desirable criteria

11. Experience of working in an NHS environment or public sector
12. Knowledge of medical terminology
13. Advanced computer skills

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria

14. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and telephone manner
15. Able to use IT facilities for information retrieval
16. Problem solving skills and ability to use own initiative to identify improvements and to use negotiating skills to implement changes
17. Excellent Interpersonal skills allowing effective communication between all internal and external customers
18. Ability to work to tight deadlines and stay calm under pressure
19. Attention to detail
20. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations
21. Friendly and approachable manner

22. Experience of producing presentations using MS PowerPoint
