Depute Head Teacher – Fixed term until 26/06/2026 – Canal View Primary School
Salary: £66,606 • Hours: 35 per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Acting Depute Head Teacher at Canal View Primary School. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Depute Head Teacher with leadership and management experience and a proven track record of providing high quality learning and teaching to raise attainment and close the attainment gap to join our Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
The Successful Candidate Will
* Work as part of the SLT to take forward school initiatives and the school improvement plan.
* Work within the SLT to facilitate improvements in attainment, attendance, and equity.
* Be a key part of the school's Self‑Evaluation and Quality Assurance work.
* Oversee Early Level (Nursery and Primary 1), Literacy and Play Pedagogy.
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will be required to model high standards of pedagogy to inspire, motivate and support colleagues in the development of their own classroom practice.
Canal View Primary School serves the community of Wester Hailes. The school has a broad social mix and the catchment contains areas of multiple deprivation with 77% of our learners living in SIMD 1 and 2. It receives both Positive Action funding and Pupil Equity funding. Canal View Primary School is organised into fourteen classes from P1‑7 and has a Nursery offering 64 full‑time places.
The school is currently led by a Head Teacher, a Depute Head Teacher, a Principal Teacher and a Business Manager. There are eighteen class teachers and three part‑time Support for Learning Teachers ably supported by a School Administrator, Pupil Support Assistants, two Pupil Support Officers and a Facilities Technician. The Nursery has a Senior Early Years Officer, an Early Years Officer, a team of Early Years Practitioners, Early Years Assistants and Early Years Domestic Support Assistants.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out of the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre‑employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
