Job Summary
We are looking for a caring and compassionate person to provide one-on-one support to an older gentleman in and around his own home North of York (YO60).
The client lives with anxiety and depression but is physically well and able. He manages his own home life, hygiene and medication but struggles to motivate himself to overcome his anxiety to leave his home and engage with activities.
You will encourage the client to take positive actions each day, accompany him on walks and activities to improve his mental health and develop his confidence to engage with life independently.
We would envisage you working 4-5 mornings per week but there is flexibility to adjust working hours in consultation with the client to work around your and his lifestyle.

Responsibilities
* Provide emotional support and encouragement the client
* Chat, provide companionship and participate in activities within the home such as card games and cooking
* Accompany the client on walks, shopping and eventually mornings/days out
* Transport the client to activities and appointments using your own vehicle
* Help the client to build his confidence using public transport and being in public spaces independently
* Encourage social engagement and accompany the client to social groups
* Encourage and support eating well at home and help to build the client's confidence to eat in cafes and restaurants
* Work with the client to plan steps to build his confidence in the areas he feels he needs to work on
* Monitor and respond to changes in mental or emotional wellbeing and where necessary reporting concerns to the relevant people
Experience
* Able to listen actively and ensure others feel heard and understood
* Confidence to challenge individuals where necessary and appropriate
* A positive and upbeat attitude - able to lift the energy of those around you
* Experience of anxiety/depression either in a professional or personal capacity
* Ability to work independently and manage your own time
* Full driving license and access to a vehicle
* Living within 15 miles (25Km) of YO60
* Existing enhanced DBS check or ability to pass one
* Mental healthcare qualifications and/or knowledge of self-care strategies and coping tools would be advantageous but is not essential.

Pay: £19.00-£30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
