Job Overview
You will supervise the clinical imaging assistant (CIA) team on a day‑to‑day basis, maintaining and monitoring workforce deployment across the clinical services. The role involves liaising with modality managers to achieve an appropriate skill mix, working closely with radiographers, consultant radiologists, surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
The skills, experience and knowledge required for this role include a sound educational background and qualifications, good IT skills, supervisory or leadership experience, extensive experience working or volunteering with members of the general public and proven experience within a healthcare setting.

Main Duties of the Job
Your day‑to‑day duties will include:
* Lead on‑shift supervision of the CIA team: allocate tasks and breaks, ensure coverage across rooms/modalities/scanners and maintain clear responsibility for team members.
* Provide real‑time oversight of patient flow, turnaround times and capacity; reprioritise work and redeploy staff as needed; escalation of delays, incidents or staffing risks to line manager.
* Prepare patients for examination and accompany them to and from scanner rooms.
* Carry out patient safety screening checks and confirm consent.
* Assist radiographers and radiologists with procedures, patient escorting/positioning/transfer and equipment setup.
* Perform clerical tasks such as data input, image transfer, booking, telephony, email, post and filing to maintain patient flow and accurate records.
Shifts involve variable days over a 7‑day week (mix of 11.5 h, 8 h and 6 h shifts by rota with a 30‑minute unpaid break) at Cheltenham Imaging Centre and Gloucester Community Diagnostic Centre. Weekend and bank‑holiday work is covered.

Key Responsibilities
* Supervise the CIA team, allocate tasks, manage breaks and ensure coverage across modalities.
* Monitor patient flow and capacity, reprioritise work and raise staffing risks.
* Maintain compliance with SOPs, MRI local rules, infection prevention & control, information governance and other regulatory standards.
* Conduct routine spot checks and mini‑audits (e.g., safety screening completeness, identity/consent checks, contrast checks, hand hygiene, room/equipment checklists) and record actions.
* Ensure mandatory training compliance across the CIA team, track expiries and coordinate training sessions.
* Oversee stock, consumables and medicines management (including contrast media), ensuring availability, compliance and accurate records.
* Prepare and maintain site readiness for inspection (CQC, QSI, ISO): keep SOPs, risk assessments and signage up‑to‑date.
* Provide physical and emotional support to patients, explaining examinations and managing expectations.
* Lead on infection control, decontamination logs and overall clinical environment cleanliness.
* Assist in the induction of new staff, delivery of competency frameworks and identification of training needs.
* Support the procurement and replenishment of consumables and medicines, and manage temperature control and waste segregation.
* Monitor staffing levels, arrange agency cover where appropriate, and support rapid access clinics.
* Report on performance indicators and support quality improvement initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
* Hold certification for cannulation procedures within the defined scope of practice.
* Maintain accurate batch/expiry records, secure storage and procurement coordination for medicines.
* Assist with appraisal of Clinical Imaging Assistants, setting objectives, and personal development plans.

Qualifications
* Minimum of five GCSEs (Grades A‑C), including English language, Maths and a Science subject.
* Educated to NVQ level 3 equivalent in a relevant subject.
