As a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, you will lead and support a team delivering high‑quality grounds maintenance across the site, ensuring all tasks are completed to the required standard and operations run smoothly. You will be responsible for maintaining safe working practices, ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, and keeping all tools and equipment in safe, serviceable condition. The role also requires strong customer‑facing skills and the ability to prepare accurate pricing for tendered projects.

Role of a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor includes:

* Lead and support the grounds maintenance team in delivering all scheduled and reactive grounds maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, hedge cutting, shrub maintenance, litter picking, leaf clearing, and seasonal duties such as pathway gritting and minor snow clearance.
* Ensure all grounds contracts are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required specification, consistently achieving high presentation standards across all sites.
* Operate and oversee the safe use of commercial pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, blowers, and other small machinery, ensuring all team members follow correct operating procedures.
* Maintain clear and professional communication with clients and customers, addressing queries, reporting progress, and supporting strong working relationships.
* Ensure full compliance with company quality systems, including point‑of‑work assessments, site‑specific risk assessments, COSHH requirements, and all relevant Health & Safety procedures.
* Monitor and report near misses, accidents, and incidents promptly and accurately in line with company processes.
* Take responsibility for the condition, safe operation, and routine upkeep of machinery, tools, and vehicles, including reporting faults, arranging repairs, and completing mileage and fuel logs.
* Plan, allocate, and monitor daily work schedules, ensuring resources are used effectively and tasks are completed on time.
* Support staff development through on‑the‑job training, guidance, and performance feedback.
* Prepare quotes for grounds maintenance tasks and tendered projects, assessing requirements and estimating labour and materials accurately.
* Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance service delivery, site standards, and operational efficiency.

Role Requirements

* Proven experience in grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge cutting, shrub maintenance, litter picking, and seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, gritting, and minor snow removal.
* Competent in the safe operation of commercial pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, blowers, and other small machinery.
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including risk assessments, point‑of‑work checks, COSHH requirements, and safe systems of work.
* Ability to identify hazards, report near misses, and follow company procedures for accidents and incidents.
* Experience supervising or leading a small team, with the ability to plan workloads, monitor performance, and maintain high service standards.
* Confident communicating with clients and customers, providing updates, resolving queries, and representing the company professionally.
* Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage materials, equipment, and daily schedules effectively.
* Basic administrative skills, including completing logs for fuel and mileage, reporting equipment faults, and maintaining accurate records.
* Ability to prepare or support pricing for grounds maintenance tasks and tendered projects.
* Full UK driving licence (Max 3 points).
* Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From 28k per year (depending on experience)

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

* 8 hour shift
* Day shift
* Monday to Friday
