Overview
Applications are invited to join our friendly, supportive team of cardio-thoracic anaesthetists. This is a 10 PA locum appointment available for six months, delivering 10 PAs supporting the anaesthetic team at Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital Leeds. The post will be based at The Leeds General Infirmary.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent. They should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of admission to the Register if currently in a UK training programme, or have references authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. It would be suitable for applicants following the portfolio/CESR pathway. We have a strong track record supporting colleagues to achieve specialist registration via this route. Applicants should have established skills in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, with excellent communication and team-working skills, and a strong commitment to teaching and service development. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities
 * To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive cardiac anaesthetic service in LTHT.
 * To develop and/or consolidate expertise in cardiac anaesthesia.
 * To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust.
 * To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.
 * To participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
 * The appointee must demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of cardiac anaesthesia. It is desirable that candidates have experience in teaching, quality improvement and research.
 * The successful appointee will have the opportunity to contribute to clinical audit activities, including mortality and morbidity meetings, clinical audit programs, and the development and application of clinical guidelines, with allocated time in their job plan for these supporting professional activities.
 * They are also expected to maintain and update their skills through continuous medical education, as detailed in the separate person specification document.
 * The candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate teaching for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds.

 * This is a 10 PA locum appointment for Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist, supporting the current anaesthetists team of over 160 consultant anaesthetists including 9 cardiac anaesthetists. The post will be available from as soon as possible for six months.
 * This full-time Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetic post involves 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities, within a rota designed for robust cover. Your job plan will be reviewed annually with interim reviews as needed, and you will be managerially accountable to the Chief Executive and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.
 * You are expected to adhere to the General Medical Council's Good Medical Practice and the Trust's Core Behaviours, participate in mandatory annual appraisals, and follow Trust leave policies. You will undertake mandatory training and continuing medical education with time and funding provided by the Trust.
 * The role provides necessary secretarial support and IT facilities; you must comply with Trust Health and Safety and Infection Control policies, including Universal Infection Control Precautions and hand hygiene. Maintaining strict patient confidentiality is paramount.
 * Candidates must hold FRCA or equivalent accreditation and have completed a recognised higher specialist training program in Anaesthesia or be within six months of specialist registration in the UK.

 * Eligibility, Fitness to practise, and Language Skills - Essential: Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise.

 * Is up to date and fit to practise safely
 * All applicants must demonstrate written and spoken English adequate to discuss medical topics with patients and colleagues, demonstrated by one of the following: undergraduate medical training in English OR IELTS/IELTS minimum scores or OET as specified, with candidate number as required
 * Medically fit to fulfil ALL aspects of the post, and able to respond quickly to emergencies, meeting GMC health requirements
Qualifications
 * MB BS (or equivalent)
 * FRCA or equivalent qualification
Desirable
 * Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty
Clinical Experience and Career Progression
 * Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Cardiac anaesthesia, including trans-oesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac intensive care medicine
 * Demonstrate higher training in Cardiac anaesthesia
 * Evidence of continuous career progression and ability to carry out medical research

 * Accreditation in trans-oesophageal echocardiography
 * Experience supervising research by junior staff
