Finance Team Leader – Accounts Payable
Contract: 12-month fixed term contract
Location: Bruce Kenrick House, 2 Killick Street, London N1 9FL
Salary: £42,150 – £45,723 per annum for 35 hours per week
What you’ll do
As the Finance Team Leader for Accounts Payable, you will lead, motivate and guide a team of Accounts Payable Officers to deliver a high-quality, timely and accurate payment service. As the escalation point for the team, you will ensure a seamless service for internal and external stakeholders and maintain robust controls across all accounts payable activity.
You will oversee invoice processing, manage daily operational performance, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and provide insight and recommendations to senior management through the analysis of financial data. Your leadership will support the team in meeting strict deadlines and continuously improving the service.
How you’ll do it
* Lead, support and develop the Accounts Payable team, assigning tasks, monitoring performance and creating a collaborative, positive working environment.
* Ensure the accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments, consistently applying financial procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
* Act as the primary contact for escalations, handling complex enquiries and disputes and ensuring appropriate resolution.
* Establish and promote a culture of continuous improvement, empowering staff to deliver high-quality service and meet operational deadlines.
* Provide senior-level advice and guidance as required, drawing on strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support decision-making.
* Support audits, maintain internal controls, and ensure all necessary documentation is provided.
* Keep up to date with relevant NHG and statutory policies, including financial regulations and health and safety requirements.
* Work within hybrid arrangements, spending at least three days a week in the office.
Responsibilities
* Manage and develop a high-performing accounts payable team, ensuring staff are motivated, well-trained, appraised, and supported to achieve their best.
* Maintain oversight of financial processes within Accounts Payable, ensuring strict compliance, transparency and operational effectiveness.
* Address internal and external stakeholder needs with clarity, professionalism and customer focus.
* Produce accurate financial information and analysis to support senior management and organisational reporting.
* Contribute to service improvements and operational efficiency across the finance function, in line with NHG’s values and expectations.
* Uphold internal controls, policies and procedures, supporting a dependable and compliant financial environment.

Essential skills and experience include:
* Proven experience in an accounts payable role, with supervisory or leadership experience.
* Part-qualified or fully qualified CCAB accountant desirable, or qualified by experience.
* Strong proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
* Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate a team.
