Job Opportunity: Forensic Pathologist at the Centre for Forensic Medicine & Dentistry, University of Dundee
The Centre operates from Police Scotland's mortuary facilities in Dundee, providing forensic pathology and odontology services to the Scottish Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). It also offers high-quality medical education and specialist training in forensic medicine and dentistry, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The Centre handles cases such as road traffic fatalities, suicides, accidents, homicides, natural deaths, and hospital deaths. It performs approximately 550 post-mortem examinations annually, including external examinations, single-doctor autopsies, and corroborated autopsies. The team comprises three consultants, a specialty trainee, two part-time odontologists, and supporting staff.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting autopsies, report writing, ancillary investigations, attending locus, and weekend autopsies for suspicious deaths, on-call duties (1:3), meetings with next of kin, COPFS, and court attendance, all within contractual deadlines.
* Supervising forensic and histopathology trainees and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education.
* Collaborating effectively with Scottish death investigation agencies.
* Contributing to clinical governance and continuing professional development.
Candidate requirements:
* Successfully obtained Part 2 FRCPath in Forensic Histopathology or General Histopathology and CHAT, or within 6 months of CCT if in training.
* GMC registration and membership with the Royal College of Pathologists.
* Residency within Tayside for on-call duties.
* UK driving license and vehicle.
* Team-oriented with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for education and supervision.
