Job Purpose / Overview
Responsible for the Technical Solution Design for a specific Service or Asset that makes up the Service. Leads the Technical Solution Design elements as part of the overall Service Design Pack.
Responsibilities
* Within the NATS SI Framework, responsible for the end‑to‑end Technical Design of large‑scale, high‑criticality, or enterprise‑wide solutions representing the Service Design organisation to both Programme and Service Operations customers and stakeholders.
* Lead the creation, review and maintenance of the Service Design process for operational methods, procedures, facilities and tools, ensuring alignment with strategic requirements.
* Responsible for Technical Design for a Service and/or Asset group, supporting the Service Designer in meeting their accountabilities for Service Design components.
* Establish and maintain governance practices, determine appropriate governance for High‑Level and Low‑Level Technical Designs, approve exceptions, and prepare submissions to relevant governance mechanisms.
* Impact assess Operational Change Requests to ensure changes are within the Design Envelope, escalating through Design Processes when necessary.
* Represent technology design across the service and wider, with a detailed knowledge of each system and asset that composes the system/thread.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Highly motivated with strong oral and written communication skills, able to review and produce formal documentation.
* Good interpersonal communication, management skills and ability to lead, coach, and motivate design and service teams.
* Degree in Engineering or IT (or equivalent experience in a safety‑critical environment). Structured Engineering training recognised by a professional body is also acceptable.
* Experience in a Service Design organisation delivering technologies for safety‑critical services.
* Proven leadership in technology design with a focus on continual improvement and balancing stakeholder requirements.
* Strong business acumen and risk‑management capabilities, operating under uncertainty especially early in the service lifecycle.
* Fluency in ITIL principles, accredited to Foundation and Practitioner standards ideally.
* Excellent stakeholder‑management, influencing and negotiation skills at senior levels.
* Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary, matrix‑based teams within a safety‑related organisation.
* High energy, resilience and flexibility to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
