We’re seeking an experienced Lead Test Equipment Engineer to join our client’s established and growing test engineering community, with roles available at both their flagship Edinburgh site and their newly launched Newcastle office. You’ll be contributing to industry-leading projects across Radar, Advanced Targeting, and Surveillance, playing a vital role in delivering cutting-edge defence and simulation technology.
What You’ll Do:
As a Lead Test Equipment Engineer, you’ll be responsible for defining, delivering, and supporting complex technical solutions that underpin the development of military and vehicle simulation systems. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Leading the design, integration, test, and delivery of hardware/software-based test equipment solutions.
* Translating stakeholder needs into robust engineering solutions, balancing priorities and aligning with programme architecture.
* Using your technical knowledge to advise and guide the team, ensuring best practice in design and delivery.
* Resolving emerging technical issues, escalating where needed, and driving continuous improvement.
* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
* Coaching and mentoring engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and skills development.
1. Technical Expertise You'll Bring:
* Design and delivery of simulation systems and military systems, including test and installation phases.
* Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEEE 802 Ethernet, EIA-485, and MIL-STD-1553, with tool experience in Wireshark, AIM, and ATENA.
* Proficient with electronic test equipment: DVMs, digital oscilloscopes, and spectrum analysers.
* Hardware design skills across analogue, digital, and microcontroller systems, using tools such as Proteus and Altera.
* Embedded systems expertise using C, assembler, PIC-C, Hi-Tech C, and tools like MPLAB and MPLAB X IDE.
* Programming experience in C, C#, HTML, and Visual Basic for Excel, within Windows environments.
* Strong scripting and simulation knowledge: MATLAB, Perl, Linux shell scripting, and tools such as CAE Presagis Creator, Terra Vista, and 3D Perception Compact Control / NControl.
