Materials Engineer - Failure Investigator
Rolls-Royce, a global leader in manufacturing and engineering, is seeking a Materials Engineer to join our Lifecycle Services team in Derby. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support fleet safety and reliability through materials science and forensic analysis of failed components.
Responsibilities
1. Analyze failed components to determine failure modes, supporting service management and future programs.
2. Collaborate with internal departments, external customers, and governing bodies to share findings and improve processes.
3. Provide technical expertise to support fleet safety and reliability initiatives.
4. Develop fundamental understanding of failure mechanisms to inform maintenance and design improvements.
5. Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the materials engineering domain.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Science or Engineering disciplines.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to technical challenges.
* Knowledge of product safety, integrity, liability, and certification frameworks.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
* Membership in a relevant professional body; Chartered status is preferred in the UK.
* Experience with laboratory equipment such as SEMs is advantageous but not essential.
