Job Description
We’re recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience working in or regulating the energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and be available to provide business continuity support during an incident.
Competence 1 – Legislative Knowledge
Definition: Applies knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect both the Environment Agency and the environment.
From your professional experience, please tell us about two differing combustion installations – how did their environmental impacts and regulatory requirements differ?
Competence 2 – Works in Teams
Definition: Works cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
As a combustion senior advisor you will work with other senior advisors covering a wide portfolio of work both reactive and planned. Please tell us about a time you have worked as part of a team to deliver a portfolio of work and how you agreed everyone’s priorities and responsibilities and flexed to help each other deliver those priorities.
Competence 3 – Builds and Sustains Relationships
Definition: Develops and maintains effective working relationships.
As a senior advisor you will work with a range of external and internal stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations and the EA’s operational teams. Please give us an example from your own experience of where you have worked with different types of stakeholder and how you varied your approach to reflect this.
Experience / Skills Required
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role in question, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes. This will include knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
