Job Description for Design Engineer
As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems, and improve the performance and efficiency of existing products. Candidates should ideally have a degree and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and relevant engineering design experience may also qualify for the role within SDC.

2. Transform research ideas into detailed production designs.
3. Re-engineer existing designs to enhance manufacturability and efficiency.
4. Prepare engineering reports, specifications, and drawings.
5. Ensure designs comply with trailer legislation and safety standards.
6. Mentor junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
7. Apply Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. Strong problem-solving and team collaboration skills.
2. Practical hands-on approach.
3. Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk.
4. Knowledge of MS Office and in-house computer systems.
5. Understanding of stress/load calculations, FEA, and fatigue analysis.
6. Familiarity with trailer manufacturing processes and heavy engineering.
7. Good communication skills and attention to quality.
8. Ability to work outside normal hours when necessary.
9. Awareness of design cost impacts.
10. Honesty, punctuality, and dependability.
11. Knowledge of health and safety policies.
12. Legal right to work in the UK; evidence required.
