Description Social Worker - Justice Pathways Service Grindlay Court Social Work Centre Salary: £39,129 - £46,023 (pro-rata for part time) Hours: 18 per week Edinburgh Justice Services are committed to providing high quality services and ensuring a compassionate approach to people who use our services, and to supporting staff wellbeing. We offer a high level of training to support continuous professional development and to deliver a broad range of interventions. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Social Worker with a particular interest in Trauma Informed Practice, Early Intervention and Groupwork to join the Justice Pathways Service (JPS). JPS delivers a range of Justice interventions such as Diversion from Prosecution, Structured Deferred Sentences and Community Payback Orders. The overall remit of the team is to deliver a service that is responsive to the risks and needs of men affected by complex trauma and/or substance use. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): • Assessment and report writing • Supervising and responding to service users in the community and in custody • Contributing to multi agency risk and safety planning and management • Development and delivery of groupwork programmes Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a good understanding of National Outcomes and Standards and public protection, be willing to work in a dynamic environment and to contribute to an inclusive culture that values and respects diversity and lived experience. Candidates will have a degree in Social Work and be registered, or eligible to register, with the SSSC. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A n unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory. Follow us on X at @edincounciljobs View Social Worker job description Responsibilities Experience Previous work or student placement experience that demonstrates an ability to transfer knowledge, skills and practice (essential) Previous experience of working with adults or young people with challenging behaviour (desirable) Previous experience of working in a justice setting (desirable) Previous experience of working in a secondary setting (desirable) Knowledge, Skills and Understanding Knowledge of social work legislation and social policy (essential) Knowledge of social work theory and possible explanations for offending behaviour and desistance (essential) Knowledge of Scottish Government’s National Outcomes and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice system and other key policies and guidelines (desirable) Knowledge of the research on effective practice with people who have offended (desirable) Knowledge and understanding of the impact of trauma into adulthood, trauma enhanced practice and evidence-based approaches when working with complex trauma survivors (desirable) Understanding of the complexities of, and the impact of, domestic abuse on adults and children (desirable) Qualifications and Training Social work qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) (essential) Registration with SSSC (essential) Adherence to the values and principles enshrined in the SSSC Code of Practice (essential) A desire to develop professional knowledge, skills and practice through training and continuous professional development opportunities (essential) Post qualifying training – working towards the Post Qualifying or Advanced Award (desirable) Child and Adult Protection training (desirable) RMA Risk Practice Training (desirable) Training in and experience of the use of a wide range of approved risk assessment tools (desirable) Other relevant training (e.g. MF:MC, Caledonian, Safe and Together) (desirable) Job Specific Requirements An ability to work prescribed standards set within the framework of NOS and the Criminal Justice Branch procedures and policy (essential) An understanding of the issues around managing change in self, others or organisations (essential) An understanding of professional and personal authority, how to exercise discretion and how to use it appropriately (essential) An ability to communicate and engage with others (essential) An ability to establish and maintain working relationships (essential) An ability to reflect on practice – self, others and the organisation (essential) An understanding of assessment and management issues in relation to risk and need (essential) An ability to undertake assessments (essential) An understanding of anti discriminatory practice (essential) An understanding of offending behaviour work which is victim focused (essential)
