Overview

Reporting to E&C International Head TTR, the UK/IE, Canada & Nordics (Medium Sized Markets - MSM North) Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing and supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of an effective Ethics & Compliance program in the UK/IE & MSM North markets. The role is a member of the International E&C LT and works closely with colleagues in the broader International and Global Ethics & Compliance team, the Country Heads of the scope countries and their leadership teams, and cross-functionally with other departments (e.g., Legal, Medical, HR, IT, Finance and business colleagues) to sustain Alnylam’s strong ethical culture and ensure employee adherence. This position is hybrid and based in Maidenhead, UK.


Responsibilities

* Partner with UK/IE & MSM North country leadership teams to maintain and further develop a strong culture of ethics and compliance, including individual accountability at all levels and a spirit of partnership and problem solving.
* Implement and evolve the Ethics & Compliance program in UK/IE & MSM North markets and in regional activities/projects to ensure consistency with Alnylam’s values and principles, a fit-for-purpose approach, and compliance with local and above-market requirements.
* Provide solutions-oriented compliance advice and support to the business on compliance matters to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
* Monitor and maintain an understanding of regulatory and compliance trends in local laws, industry codes, and guidelines relevant to UK/IE & MSM North to inform program improvement.
* Develop, implement and/or update Ethics & Compliance policies and procedures to align with local laws, regulations, industry codes, and global policies.
* Support affiliate transparency reporting requirements and assist business leadership in meeting reporting obligations.
* Assist in the implementation and execution of local risk-based third-party due diligence.
* Foster a data protection culture and help implement elements of data protection policies and procedures in line with local requirements.
* Ensure an effective training and communications program to ensure understanding of responsibilities and issues related to ethics, compliance and data privacy, including in-person sessions and campaigns as needed.
* Execute annual UK/IE & MSM North risk assessments and risk-based monitoring of business activities; identify compliance and data privacy vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions as necessary.
* Collaborate with Compliance Investigations to support investigations and remediation as required.
* Manage administrative and operational aspects of the Ethics & Compliance program in UK/IE & MSM North.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Legal, Medical, HR, IT, Finance to advise, coordinate, and facilitate policy implementation; identify emerging risks and assist in remediation.
* As a member of the LT of the International E&C team, support deployment of regional and global E&C strategic priorities and initiatives, including best practice sharing.
* Escalate critical issues and matters within the Ethics & Compliance function as needed.
* Other responsibilities as assigned by the company."


Qualifications

* Integrity and high professional ethics.
* Bachelor’s Degree required (Legal or other relevant degree) with 8+ years of experience in ethics, compliance and/or legal within biopharmaceutical, medical device or other healthcare settings, subject to relevant laws and regulations.
* Knowledge of foreign healthcare fraud and abuse laws (e.g., UK Bribery Act, FCPA), industry codes (e.g., ABPI Code), and data privacy legislation; experience with transparency reporting is a plus.
* Demonstrated leadership and ability to work collaboratively across functions and cultures; able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and understand escalation principles and E&C independence.
* Commitment to integrating a comprehensive compliance program with the company’s business and culture.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills (English fluency required; additional languages are a plus); ability to provide solutions-oriented compliance guidance in a global environment.
* Some international travel may be required.
