This role is open to all applicants. An experienced healthcare chaplain with a track record of providing spiritual, pastoral and religious care in a healthcare setting is required to join the Chaplaincy Team at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT).
The role involves working across the Trust in clinical & non‑clinical areas with patients, staff and visitors. It includes responding to referrals, being a proactive presence throughout the Trust, and being part of a 5‑day a week on‑site chaplaincy presence, with evening & weekend 24‑hour on‑call from home for emergencies and End of Life referrals.
Responsibilities
* Visit patients, staff and visitors in wards and departments on a regular basis, providing spiritual, religious and pastoral care to those of all religions and beliefs.
* Provide care for the dying, critically ill, and newly bereaved, including those experiencing sudden death or pregnancy loss.
* Work respectfully and sensitively alongside other Chaplaincy Team members and all other healthcare professionals.
* Assist the Lead Chaplain and deputise for them from time to time, as required.
* Work in partnership with leaders from all local faiths and beliefs to enable spiritual, religious and pastoral care for all within the Trust.
* Produce rotas for daytime and on‑call duties, liaising with the Lead Chaplain.
* Support the 24‑hour service, 7 days a week – responding to call outs as part of the on‑call rota.
* Create and support corporate acts of worship which have spiritual significance, such as the annual baby remembrance service.
* Intentionally support members of staff and consider the role of volunteers within Chaplaincy, including recruitment and training.
* Respond to all referrals to the Chaplaincy Team.
* Maintain emotional strength and resilience to cope with difficult and challenging pastoral situations.
Requirements
Track record of providing spiritual, pastoral and religious care in a healthcare setting. Ability to work 5 days a week on‑site with evening & weekend on‑call responsibilities. Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills. Resilience and emotional strength.
