Unqualified Nursery Teaching Assistant
Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Sunderland to recruit a Teaching Assistant for their on-site Nursery. This is a full-time position starting in January and is well suited to someone with strong early years experience and a genuine interest in supporting children’s early learning and development within a school-based Early Years setting.
About Early Years Unit
The Early Years is an integral part of the primary school and provides a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. Staff work closely together to ensure children feel safe, supported and confident as they begin their early learning journey.
A strong emphasis is placed on outdoor learning, with regular opportunities for children to explore, investigate and engage with the natural environment. The Early Years values child-led play, positive relationships and high-quality care that supports children’s development from the earliest stages.
The Role
As a Practitioner working with children from nine months old, you will play an important role in supporting children’s learning, care and development. You will help create a safe, engaging and supportive environment where children are encouraged to develop through sensory experiences, outdoor learning and meaningful interactions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide high-quality physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for young children
2. Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS framework
3. Promote outdoor learning and nature-based play, making full use of the school’s outdoor spaces
4. Act as a Key Person for a small group of children, building strong relationships with families
5. Observe and assess children’s progress, contributing to learning journeys through observations and photographs
6. Maintain a safe, clean and well-organised learning environment
7. Work collaboratively with Nursery and school staff, contributing to a positive team ethos
8. Follow safeguarding procedures at all times, ensuring children’s welfare and safety
9. Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing information about children’s development
What We Are Looking For
10. Experience working in a nursery or early years setting
11. Level 3 Early Years qualification would be desirable, but is not essential
12. A genuine interest in outdoor learning and child-led play
13. A warm, caring and enthusiastic approach
14. Strong teamwork and communication skills
15. Knowledge of the EYFS framework, safeguarding and child development
16. Reliability, flexibility and a commitment to high standards
