Job Title: Dysphagia Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Newcastle upon Tyne Banding: Band 6 Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Start: ASAP Duration: Permanent Rate: £37,672 to £46,234 per annum Working hours: Full-time We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Dysphagia Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our client’s team at The Percy Hedley Foundation in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within one of the region’s largest charities, supporting individuals with a range of learning and physical needs. The Foundation takes a person-centred, flexible approach to care, with a strong focus on delivering the best outcomes through a dynamic and supportive team environment. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties • Implement safe, effective, and evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions • Assess and manage a caseload of students with complex needs in an educational setting • Contribute to initial assessments and decisions around educational placements • Produce detailed reports and therapy plans aligned with EHCPs and SMART targets • Deliver interventions in specialist areas such as AAC, literacy, dysphagia, SCERTS, emotional regulation, and more • Communicate complex information effectively to students, carers, and teams • Maintain accurate and effective case notes in line with policy • Demonstrate clinical effectiveness using outcome measures and evidence-based practice • Work collaboratively within a trans-disciplinary team to embed therapy targets into the curriculum Organisational Duties • Manage your own time and prioritise caseloads effectively • Provide training and advice to carers, education staff, and other professionals • Supervise and mentor Band 3–5 staff, assistants, and students • Provide clinical leadership and support on complex cases • Undertake appraisals and participate in recruitment activities • Contribute to risk assessments and policy development • Participate in service planning, audits, and quality assurance initiatives • Maintain and monitor therapy equipment and resources • Promote the SLT profession through engagement with visitors, students, and volunteers • Engage in regular supervision, peer review, and performance development • Maintain a CPD portfolio in line with RCSLT and HCPC requirements Qualifications and Experience: • Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy • HCPC registration • RCSLT membership • NHS experience is essential • Experience working with children with complex special needs, including ASD and challenging behaviour • Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs or Statements of SEN • Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills • Knowledge of a range of therapy strategies and AAC methods • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills Desirable: • Evidence of recent and relevant CPD • ASD-specific training (e.g. PECS, TEACCH, SCERTS) • Experience working with older children • Willingness to accompany pupils on residential or community trips Personal Qualities: • Enthusiastic, energetic, and resilient • Flexible, creative, and resourceful • Committed to equal opportunities in education • Good level of fitness and stamina • Willing to contribute to the wider life of the school Why work with Pulse?
