To join us for a summer placement you must currently be at university and studying one of the following degree disciplines:

You’ll be working with graduates, experienced professionals, and other students so a placement with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture. It’s also a great chance to get involved with real projects while gaining relevant experience.
We do not have a formal structure for our placements, so you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.
We are looking for students with the following characteristics:
* A methodical approach to problem solving
* The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
* Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
* Excellent written communication and attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.

Job Description
Our summer internship schemes are for a period of 8-12 weeks, during which, you will have the opportunity to work within our water team where you’ll have the chance to work on large scale projects alongside our teams.
We manage and deliver designs for major infrastructure projects and are recognised as authoritative and innovative in ground engineering. We specialise in all aspects of foundations, geotechnics, and tunnelling, and contribute to some of the largest and most demanding structures in the world. These projects range from Crossrail in London, Boston Tidal Barrier, HS2, UK Reservoirs, and International Hydropower Dams to name a few.
Areas of expertise include value management and value engineering, geotechnical advice, geotechnical information management, site investigation, rock engineering, slope engineering, coastal engineering, and environmental geotechnics. Supporting our civil design capability, we have specialist engineering geology, numerical modelling, seismic and hydrogeology expertise.
Work will vary but you are likely to undertake the following type of work:
* Prepare desk studies
* Plan, and report on ground investigations to the requirements of EC7.
* Provide engineering geological input, and parameter derivation, to the design of the following in both soil and rock:
* Foundations and substructures
* Slopes and assess stability
* Earthworks
* Reinforced earth structures
* Provide input to of soil and rock mechanics analyses.
* Classify rock masses using rock mass rating systems
* Undertake budgeting and cost control
* Prepare technical reports
