Following the appointment of Professor Karl Dayson to the position of Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor, the University is initiating a process to identify an experienced senior academic colleague to undertake the role of Interim Pro Vice Chancellor (Research & Knowledge Exchange).
This interim appointment will be made for an initial period of six months, providing continuity of leadership for the University’s research and knowledge exchange (KE) activity while the institution undertakes a formal recruitment process for a permanent Pro Vice Chancellor (Research and Commercialisation). The permanent role will carry a broader remit and will be advertised separately with a revised job description.
Role Overview
The Interim Pro Vice Chancellor (Research & Knowledge Exchange) will provide strategic leadership and oversight across the University’s research and KE portfolio. Key areas of responsibility include:
* Leading the development and delivery of the University’s recently announced research strategy.
* Overseeing research and enterprise performance, including grant capture, research development, REF-related activity, research culture enhancement, consultancy and educational income and quality assurance.
* Ongoing preparation for the next REF.
* Strengthening partnerships with external organisations, including industry, commercial partners, and community stakeholders.
* Line management of the senior staff within the Research and Enterprise directorate and the PDU.
* Promote equality and diversity across the research, knowledge exchange and enterprise activity.
* Working collaboratively with members of the Executive Leadership Team to support institutional priorities.
* Ensuring continuity and effective communication across Colleges and Schools during this transition period.
Eligibility And Requirements
Expressions of interest are invited from senior academic staff (normally Professors) who can demonstrate:
* A strong record of research leadership and income generation.
* Experience of managing research and enterprise initiatives at School, College, or institutional level.
* An understanding of national and international research and knowledge exchange policy and funding landscapes.
* The ability to represent the University effectively with external partners and sector bodies.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
