Shop Assistant Uppingham School was founded in 1584 and is one of the UKs leading co-educational independent boarding and day schools located in the picturesque county of Rutland. It has a strong academic profile and an internal reputation. Uppingham School Shop serves primarily both the School pupils and staff. The Shop provided uniform, sports equipment and merchandise as well as supplying books to academic departments. It operates as an independent commercial enterprise as part of Uppingham Schol Enterprises Ltd. We now have a vacancy for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team and work with the School Shop Manager in providing exceptional customer service and developing this profitable business further. Job Purpose To assist the Manager and to contribute to the Shop reaching and exceeding annual objectives and goals. To maintain the reputation of the School Shop being a market leader in its field. Accountabilities To provide excellent customer service to pupils, parents and staff To communicate features and benefits of merchandise beyond the basics, to appeal to the customers needs, and ultimately generate sales To process deliveries in a timely manner, to communicate replenishment needs and order stock where necessary and to open and close the Shop To merchandise goods in windows and on the shop floor and maintain visual standards throughout the Shop to enhance the brand and maximise sales potential To develop and liaise with suppliers to provide new items of merchandise for sale to pupils, old pupils and external visitors To communicate effectively with customers and to create strong partnerships with other areas of the School To form a cohesive team with the Shop Manager focused on creating an energetic, exciting, innovative and approachable shopping environment To provide a through enjoyable uniform fitting experience for all new pupils and parents To monitor stock costs and compare them with other suppliers: to analyse sales figures and assist in the preparation of papers to the Board of Trustees To train and direct other shop staff when required, to ensure they have the required level of product knowledge The role involves regular manual handling and the lifting of heavy equipment; therefore, candidates must be able to carry out these duties safely and effectively. Skills and experience: High end retail experience Proven ability to achieve sales goals and create productive client relationships High degree of IT literacy including the ability to use Excel Proven ability to manage stock (stock turn, replenishment levels) Accurate data entry skills Excellent organisational skills Terms and Conditions Salary: £22,458 per annum Working hours: 34 weeks per year: Monday Friday 8.30am 5pm, with a 30-minute lunch break Alternate Saturdays 9.30am -1pm 3 weeks at end of summer: Tuesday Saturday 9am-5pm with a 30-minute lunch break Total 37 weeks per year. Some Sunday work may be required near the start of School term and ad hoc hours during the holidays to service external clients.
