About the role
We're looking for a Digital Content Editor to manage and optimise our digital channels, including our website. In this role, you'll ensure content is clear, accurate, accessible and meets user needs. You'll drive organic growth by leading on-page SEO and supporting the wider SEO function across technical and off-page practices.
Using tools like Google Analytics and Search Console, you'll identify opportunities, improve engagement and deliver data-driven enhancements for our website. Collaborating with stakeholders, you'll bring their information to life online through effective communication and promotion, while championing digital best practices.
This role combines communication, content optimisation and stakeholder engagement to deliver content that enhances commercial goals and customer experience. To support with collaboration, occasional travel across the GWR network is required.
Your main responsibilities will be:
1. Write, edit and publish high-quality, user-focused content across
2. Manage day-to-day content updates, ensuring a timely and consistent publishing process
3. Lead on-page SEO across, ensuring content is aligned to search intent and best practice
4. Conduct regular content QA checks to maintain accuracy, and ensure compliance with editorial, optimisation and accessibility standards
5. Provide day-to-day advice and clear guidance to colleagues on digital best practice, accessibility and SEO
6. Work with the Digital Marketing and Content Manager to continually improve content processes, workflows and governance
7. Use customer insight tools and Google Search Console to track performance of website content and highlight risks or opportunities
8. Support cross-team initiatives, campaigns and digital improvements as required
9. Build positive relationships with internal stakeholders, representing the needs of digital users

About you
As the successful candidate, you'll havethe following:
Knowledge
16. Strong understanding of digital content principles and best practice
17. Strong knowledge of on-page Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
18. Awareness of web accessibility standards and writing for digital channels
19. Familiarity with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and content/SEO performance tools
20. (Preferable) Understanding of UX and digital design principles
Skills
21. Excellent editorial and copywriting skills
22. Strong proofreader with high attention to detail
23. Team player who can develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
24. Confident communicator who can explain complex digital and technical concepts simply
25. Organisation skills, capable of managing multiple projects or tasks at once
26. Comfortable analysing performance data and analytics to identify trends and opportunities
Experience
27. Experience in a digital content or editorial role
28. Experience managing digital content production and use of website content management systems (CMS)
29. Experience writing and editing content for public-facing websites
30. Experience applying on-page SEO best practices
31. (Preferable) Experience in a digital team or agile product development environment
32. (Preferable) Experience working with an e-commerce website
About the location
Our digital team works out of 3 main locations, London Paddington, Exeter and Plymouth, therefore you can be primarily based in any of these offices.
To ensure collaboration and support for our stakeholders, some travel to other locations on the GWR network will be required on occasion. Free train travel for GWR is included as part of this role.
