The purpose of the role will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis.
* Attend and investigate water pollution incidents across the Wessex Water region.
* Undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling.
* Undertake desk-based data entry after collecting data in the field.
* Undertake technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirements.
* Maintain all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed.
* Support graduate consultants through technical water quality advice.
* Conduct site and desktop audits with graduate consultants.
* Assist in training and development of graduate consultants.
* Ensure the quality of technical report writing.
* Assist in the maintenance of field equipment & PPE.
* Provision of accurate and timely information to line management.
* Support team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels.
* There may be a requirement to attend meetings with the client and contribute where appropriate.
* Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline.
* Minimum 1 year's experience on the pollution incident response contract (Wessex/Thames/Southern).
* Comprehensive understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters.
* A full clean UK driving licence.
* Knowledgeable & experienced in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers.
* Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word.
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
* Able to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols.
* Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients.
* Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial.
* GIS skills desirable.
* Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency.
* Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance.
* Knowledge of environment specific remediation strategies.
* An understanding of capabilities within the Adler and Allan group.
* Assist Water Quality Manager in preparing performance meeting slide deck on a monthly basis.
* Assist Water Quality Manager in financial aspects of the Wessex Water contract.
