Assistant Chief Fire Officer
Salary up to £113,621.92 pa subject to operational competence (+ benefits & relocation package).
We are excited to announce an opportunity for an inspiring inclusive leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO). Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service employs over 550 staff across 23 Fire Stations, serving a diverse population of over 490,000 people within a 1,346 square mile area. The county features varied risk profiles and historic sites, presenting challenges that require both established and innovative ways of working. We are seeking a strategic leader who will encourage fresh thinking, create collaborative opportunities and champion inclusivity in all aspects of our work.
In 2025, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service launched our 2025-2028 Community Risk Management plan. The successful candidate will be critical in shaping and delivering our plan, ensuring it reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible service to Shropshire through defined strategic priorities.
Role and responsibilities
* Provide executive, operational, and Gold Command cover as part of the Brigade Manager Rota.
* Lead strategic leadership of functions and operational command, with evidence of operating effectively at Strategic Manager level.
* Shape and deliver the Community Risk Management plan and associated strategic priorities.
* Demonstrate the ability to manage significant operational incidents and maintain national competency requirements (accreditations such as MAGIC and IC L3 or 4).
* Promote fresh thinking, collaboration, and inclusivity across the Service and with partners.
* Provide transitional operational training for individuals not currently operationally competent, where required.
Qualifications and experience
* High-performing, qualified, competent Senior Manager with successful track record at Strategic Manager level.
* Experience in strategic leadership of functions and operational command.
* Ability to operate effectively within fire and rescue sector or willingness to transition from other sectors; evidence of strategic leadership capabilities is essential.
* Relevant accreditation (e.g., MAGIC and IC L3 or 4) or willingness to attain.
