Street Works Permit Inspector
Salary: Up to £33,699 (career graded)

About the Role
As a Street Works Permit Inspector, you will play a key role in inspecting and monitoring all Council and statutory undertakers’ street works across the Borough. You will ensure full compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, the Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004, the Authority’s Permit Scheme, and all relevant national guidance and codes of practice – helping to maintain a safe, well‑coordinated network and minimise disruption on our highways.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspecting and monitoring street works across the Borough to keep our network moving
* Ensuring all works meet national standards and permit conditions
* Identifying issues early, issuing notices, and driving timely and effective resolutions
* Working closely with utility companies, developers, and partners to coordinate activity
* Leading inspections on new development sites to ensure they meet adoptable standards
* Supporting wider highway inspections and contributing to a safe, well‑managed network
About You
* Has experience in a highways, construction, civil engineering, or street works environment
* Communicates clearly and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders
* Can work independently, using initiative to solve problems and make decisions
* Is organised and able to manage their own workload effectively
* Demonstrates enthusiasm, drive, and a strong work ethic
* Can work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends
* Holds a full UK driving licence and can travel across the Borough
