Senior Principal Civil Engineer - Hydropower and Dams
Stantec invites experienced Senior Principal Civil Engineers with Hydropower or Pumped Storage experience to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on the design and development of cutting‑edge dams, hydropower, and pumped‑storage solutions.

Based in any of our UK offices, you will work on diverse projects such as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales, and support UK water companies with inspections, remediation, and new dam and reservoir development.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, and clients to achieve positive project outcomes.
* Engage in traditional advisory roles, Owner’s Engineer duties, client‑facing concept design, contractor‑facing detailed design, remediation, troubleshooting, installation support, and Lender’s Engineer/insurance/due diligence support.
About You
You will be a Senior Principal Civil Engineer who is, ideally, Chartered or Incorporated with the ICE, or working toward this qualification, with experience in the civil design of at least one of the following:
* Dams (or dam components)
* Hydro and/or pumped storage hydro schemes
* Design and assessment of complex hydraulic structures such as channels, culverts, bridges, spillways, and stilling basins
Ideally you have significant civil engineering experience and skills in the dams and hydro sector, or aligned water and energy sector experience. You will have a good understanding of how the various disciplines within the sector come together to create an integrated solution, and be experienced in producing technical specifications, designs, and reports. You should be comfortable working within a full 3D environment and a common data environment.
