NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A rare opportunity has arisen in the Perth & Kinross Community Learning Disability Occupational Therapy service. We require an Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our multi-disciplinary team working with adults with Learning Disabilities throughout the Perth and Kinross area. This post is currently based at Murray Royal Hospital.

We are looking for individuals who have excellent assessment, problem solving and intervention skills they can use with adults with learning disabilities within the community setting. Our role as a Specialist Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Team is to provide assessment, treatment, and management to adults with a learning disability, whose needs cannot be successfully met by mainstream services, even when reasonable adjustments are made. This involves working collaboratively with our patient group, their network of care, mainstream health services and the MDT. As such, this role requires confident general OT skills and strong skills in relationship building and communication.

As a team we use group work such as sensory stories, practical cooking, sensory exploration and life-skills as well as individual interventions.

This is an ideal position for someone with experience or a keen interest in the Learning Disability field. Areas such as sensory integration, functional assessment, postural care, individual and group work and positive behaviour support are key topics within this field.

The successful applicant will work closely in our small service with Occupational Therapy colleagues and other members of the Learning Disability team in a variety of community settings and localities throughout Perth and Kinross.

The successful applicant can expect to be fully supported by senior staff through our established system of personal and practice development. We also have a strong commitment to the development of the Occupational Therapy team as well as supporting change and improvement initiatives within the wider learning disability team. Innovative practice, clinical governance, CPD and evidence-based practice are all actively encouraged.

Applicants should be flexible and have good communication and team working skills. Applications are accepted from interested and passionate individuals who have a degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy and are registered with the HCPC.

You must be registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This post requires membership of Disclosure Scotland’s PVG Scheme.

Informal enquiries to: Sally Thomas, Occupational Therapy Team Lead by telephone on 01738 562261 or by email [emailprotected].

Hours of work are: 37 per week but are negotiable for the right applicant.

Short-listed applicants will be contacted by email. Please check your emails regularly, including your junk/spam folder.
